HISTORY
EXILE
at age 10, she witnessed a vision of her clan being slaughtered by kossian soldiers. terrified by what she had seen, she tried to warn her clan's leader, the jarl. the jarl called a clan meeting, and mavis discovered that her own people feared her power more than kossos because her power — a psychic energy known as furor — was strongly associated with the empire's power, as it fuels the hivemind that unites every kossian. taking her for an ill omen and a curse, the clan exiled her.
she made a life for herself alone in the desert of the soundless wilds, an itinerant outcast who — despite her exile — could never bring herself to stray too far from where the kuruko settled, always testing the edge of their territory as a part of herself hoped to reunite with them one day, or at the very least keep them safe. it was a solitary existence. she taught herself all the necessary skills for survival: she salvaged scrap metal and parts from ancient machine artifacts, hunted and gathered.
GENOCIDE
eventually, the vision came true. when she was 25, kossian soldiers invaded and massacred her people. seeing the fire of their camp on the horizon, she disregarded her exile and entered the camp to find her people decimated, every last one of them killed.
in the aftermath, a kossian soldier named aristaeus found her in the camp and began pursuing her. she learned that he was a venator, part of a 3-man unit of hunters sent to find people with strong affinity for furor and 'invite them' to join the kossian hivemind. mavis rejected him and fled.
TETHERED
when aristaeus' unit closes in on them, mavis loses control of her power and kills the youngest venator, ione. mavis gets a narrow chance to escape with her life, but darcy opts to stay behind and return to kossos with them. afraid of their own power, they seek a way to train it. mavis blames aristaeus and kossos for taking away her only friend, resolute in her belief that going to kossos would mean losing her sense of self and identity.
once separated, mavis discovers that in the fight to escape with her life, she accidentally telepathically linked herself to aristaeus — a link he can't undo because his own furor specializes more in telekinesis than telepathy. because mavis accuses aristaeus of creating it, and because of darcy's recent recruitment, aristaeus adjusts his approach the next time they cross paths over an ancient mine: he promise her training in controlling and understanding her power in kossos. despite this, she rejects him again.

MONSTER
appearance
In her full monstrous form, Mavis is an oversized panther, about three feet tall and six feet from nose to tail. Her fur is void-black and sleek like a short-haired house cat, shiny and soft to the touch. She is slim yet muscular, with sharp teeth and claws for rending flesh.
At will, she can manifest up to six shadowy and tentacles from her back. Their bulbous ends secrete two types of poison: one induces a sleepy sort of arousal, the other a paralytic.
POWERS
STRENGTH | The panther is stronger than your average bear with bone-crushing jaws filled with sharp teeth. In addition, it's quick and hard to catch.
TENTACLES | At will, she can manifest up to six shadowy and tentacles from her back. In addition to functioning to constrict, grab, and hold her prey, these tentacles' bulbous ends secrete two types of poison: one induces a sleepy sort of arousal, the other a paralytic.
PSYCHIC | Mavis's own psychic powers are still present in her monstrous form; she is able to communicate telepathically (though at her furthest transformation, she lacks the cognition for this to be more than reading the intentions of her prey in a battle situation) and also create telekinetic explosions.
behavior
Mavis does not want to be alone, so while her monstrous self is inclined to go live in the wilderness that is familiar to her, apart from society, she also wants someone to be out there with her. As a result, she is likely to attempt to kidnap others and hold them hostage and steal away into trees and caves.
She is fiercely protective and territorial, and will tear apart anyone who tries to separate her from her chosen companion(s) or who enters the area she has designated her den/nest. She may bring corpses back to any companion(s) as a form of food or proving herself as a competent hunter.
Further, the scent of blood makes her go into heat, creating in her an insatiable appetite for being bred.

characters played: ko tenjin
telepathy permission: yes for both; she might notice a bit of a duality in ko between his true self and the godly persona he often puts on. not sure if she'd notice something like his influencer-handead nature either, in that he has a hypnotic and alluring voice that can break brainwashing. nothing wild for uta.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: not unless ko being half-dead would somehow do so?
further plotting: any of it sounds cool but maybe accidentally stepping into a dream could be dope at some point. ko does have nightmares and uta's dreams vary wildly. besides that i'm down to clown

characters played: Link
telepathy permission: totally fine! she may pick up on the fact that there are holes in his memory or that he has some MASSIVE TRAUMATIC EVENTS
barriers/personal psychic abilities: he has 0 defence against telepathy things!
further plotting: are you interested in further plotting with mavis' telepathy? GIMME ALL OF IT I love stuff like this so if there's ever anything you want to do (dreams, memory share, whatever) then I am probably down!

characters played: felipe
telepathy permission: yes. she might notice that his actions are sometimes more friendly than his thoughts. like there's just something that doesn't quite add up.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: no
further plotting: sure! just maybe not dreams though, i don't know how to write them. he's in love with his sister which is a dark secret and not something he thinks about daily, but she's welcome to realize that if it ever comes up.
no subject
characters played: Shades
telepathy permission: Yup. Nothing special, just the average 'we all have our secrets' kind of guy and some of the goofing is a lie.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: No, he has no real defense against telepathy. He knows mental exercises and logic methods against hallucinations, but not against an invasive force.
further plotting: Yesss. I do love accidental influence and dream ideas. And it would both freak him out, make him very wary, and, if he realizes she doesn't do it on purpose, maybe try to help. Can't say he's worked with raw talent like that before though, but he has taken in a number of students for other things.
no subject
characters played: John Gaius
telepathy permission: it's totally okay to read John's thoughts! i will try and include some in my tags.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: when he draws on the part of alecto that lives in him in order to use his necromantic powers it probably sounds like the fucking unsound in there... imagine all unsouled life on earth crying out in one voice. he used to also hallucinate her and dream of her but that's been severed while she's not in rubi.
further plotting: yes yes yes absolutely get in there.
no subject
characters played: dimitri blaiddyd (
telepathy permission: yes! dimitri is, on the surface, pretty tumultuous and dark in his thoughts through and through. for rosie, her surface-level thoughts might immediately contradict her actions (ex. smiling real big at guys to be charming while thinking they're morons)
barriers/personal psychic abilities: nope, neither of them have that and dimitri's resistance is canonically crap.
further plotting: I'm totally open for Dimitri but Rosie would take a lot more communication so probably just dreamwalking and surface level stuff at the start, anything more in-depth we can touch base on as it comes up!!
no subject
characters played: Daryl Dixon
telepathy permission: Yes, while he's an honest guy he only ever says about 5-10% of what he's thinking or feeling, so she would pick up that he spends all of his time trying not to show what's on the inside.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: Nope, he's very normal.
further plotting: Nothing comes to mind but I'm open to suggestion.
no subject
characters played: Yennefer
telepathy permission: Totally fine! There might be a hint that Yen tends to ask questions with motives in mind — usually to get information that she deems useful or valuable, and she has a lot of personal history with having to navigate situations diplomatically while keeping her true feelings locked down, but I can allude to that in meta as well as an option to be picked up on.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: I would say she’s a little harder to read as a cursory thing, solely due to her own power and control that exists? But she is vulnerable to harder telepathy probing and definitely susceptible to forced mind invasion as shown in canon. In monster form that control would be less existent, so she’d be easier to read then.
further plotting: Definitely open to things like dreamwalking and deeper telepathy, but we can discuss as it comes up!
no subject
characters played: Ivar "The Boneless" Ragnarsson
telepathy permission: Yes, she can read his thoughts. She'll discover two things: there's an underlying current of barely-contained rage always just beneath the surface. The other is that he's always in pain no matter what he does or what situation he's in. He just consciously pushes past it, though it does make him more bad-tempered than he otherwise might be.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: Nope!
further plotting: I think it might be interesting if Mavis picked up his pain and started feeling phantom versions of it in her bones. Something that could lead the two of them having a bit of interactions and it would mean she's one of the few people who actually understand what makes Ivar tick.
no subject
characters played: Genya Safin
telepathy permission: Y. There may be disparity between what she thinks and what she says, which will be noted in the meta text.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: NORP.
further plotting: Yep! Nothing in mind at the moment but I'm open to whatever down the line.
no subject
characters played: Wanda Maximoff.
telepathy permission: Y to surface-level. She might notice that sometimes Wanda's thoughts are so perfectly constructed that it seems a little too good to be true. She can pick up that she's powerful and has a firm grasp on telepathy as well. I'll make sure to make any thoughts clear in my tags for Mavis to pick up if you want to have her respond to them!
barriers/personal psychic abilities: Wanda's a powerful telepath so Mavis will most likely come up against some firm mental blocks and Wanda can get pretty nasty in that space if she intentionally delves deeper.
further plotting: Yes! I'm open to anything that comes up. :)
no subject
characters played: Leah Shaw
telepathy permission: Go for it! Though as a heads up, Leah will not react well if she figures out this is happening. She’s not a verbose character and often presents herself as somewhat wooden or cold in conversation, but that’s largely on purpose. Underneath, she’s highly volatile and emotional, and almost always thinks about how she’d kill someone and/or clear a room upon meeting them.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: n/a
further plotting: Nothing off the top of my head, though dream shenanigans are my jam and maybe one day that could come up.
no subject
characters played: John Murphy
telepathy permission: Yes. Weird stuff she'll be able to pick up: 1) he has a non-sentient alien symbiote in his head, 2) it - and therefore Murphy - appears to be in constant distress/pain, as if it's been very badly wounded, 3) it's telepathically connected to something, but the connection is so strained as to be razor thin.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: He's practiced in holding a basic level of mental walls, but isn't expending too much energy on these at the moment due to needing to focus on the symbiote not totally knocking him out. If he becomes aware that she's telepathic and/or poking around, he'll probably try to do more, but we can just thread that out when/if it happens.
further plotting: Please!
no subject
characters played: Mad Sweeney
telepathy permission: Yes. His thoughts are discordant because he has multiple incarnations trying to exist in the same mind. He was created by the Belief of humans, and they keep remaking him into other Stories. There are various levels of bleed (including different versions of the same Story); sometimes they actively mix to the point that he can't keep them straight during his fits of madness. The rest of the time they're just present and bouncing around. They don't actively interact or talk to each other; they're just separate existences.
Most notably, he's spent a few thousand years as the sun god Lugh, a lifetime as the pagan king Buile Shuibhne (who was the one who got him cursed with madness), and a few hundred years as a traditional Irish leprechaun, before he was dragged to America by the Belief of his followers, only to be abandoned over the last couple of centuries as the world moved towards science over mysticism.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: Quite the opposite. He can't quiet them for himself; he has a tendency to be unintentionally loud at telepathic characters.
further plotting: I'm completely onboard for all sorts of ridiculous variations of these sorts of things. Please feel free to hit me up with any ideas you would like to explore.
no subject
characters played: Gideon Nav
telepathy permission: Go for it. I don't think there's anything particularly weird she'd pick up (other than the thoughts themselves lol).
barriers/personal psychic abilities: She's pretty much an open book.
further plotting: Absolutely!!
no subject
characters played: gilia st. loe
telepathy permission: yes! gilia's surface-level thoughts all run a mile a minute of her constant stream of anxiety and doubts and hyper-awareness of every little gesture, perception and glance of others. she's constantly aware of wanting to be pleasant and inobtrusive to people around her, what they will think of her, whether she's behaving appropriately if she's being annoying and if they need anything from her, sometimes there are snarkier self-loathing, and sometimes there is just like anyone else, things she'd rather leave unsaid lmao. There is also a constant sort of humming in her mind that she uses to keep calm.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: her deeper thoughts tend to border into the Sea-Father's part of her, and Mavis can absolutely go further to find it if she ever wanted! Gilia is not consciously or subconsciously masking or hiding him, just that like the bottom of the ocean, he's way far down inside her mental presence. Nor is he overtly doing anything in and of himself, he's just there, chilling. But the further Mavis goes into her mind, the more he becomes 'aware' and the more he will 'stare' back at her. It's vague at first, then with each time/extended digging, he tends to begin to look back and make it clear that this one is protected, etc, and he is Aware that she's there.
further plotting: Absolutely! Totally welcome Mavis being curious one day, and potential fallout / fun times of running into the Sea-Father himself in there! Gilia's own prophetic dreams are deeply disjointed and unhinged, snatches of future and past and present, all jumbled together because ancient sea creatures don't know how to talk to humans.
no subject
characters played: Quentin Smith
telepathy permission: Mavis can read his surface level thoughts! She might clock his tendency to focusfocusfocus and then snap to something else out. Also notable is how often he thinks something and walks it back to think it again and try to reframe--almost a constant process when he's not mad. She will PROBABLY NOTICE that his psyche is basically Swiss cheese from trauma/having Freddy claw his way in there.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: no psychic abilities unless he's asleep, he's currently working on building his dreamwalking ability, but he can change his dreams on a dime p much and is work on shoving people out AND on bending other ppl's dreams to his will.
further plotting: Open to anything telepathy wise, and it might be fun for them to sharpen their dreamwalking abilities against each other.
no subject
characters played: Joan Dority
telepathy permission: Totally. It's very easy to pick up that Joan is covering for her own insecurity and self-doubt, and is generally freaking out or reacting to some trauma that is long over.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: Nope.
further plotting: If things develop that way, totally. Joan's a fucking open book.
no subject
characters played: fence pickett
telepathy permission: yes! he doesn't literally walk around lying and then thinking to himself "that was such a good lie by me" but there might be an offhand thought now and then that doesn't match up to what he's saying out loud.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: nothing whatsoever
further plotting: yes!!
no subject
characters played: Ianthe Tridentarius
telepathy permission: Yes! I tend to assume psychic characters can pick up on metatext. Pretty sure her ADHD (which I am shit at playing) would come across along with the multitude of intrusive thoughts, the most of which are summarily dismissed as quickly as they arrive.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: Nothing from canon, but the Void has its hooks in her. Play with that as you wish.
further plotting: Yes, but only if it furthers some goal or is an intentional intrusion. Let's chat beforehand if it comes up.
no subject
characters played: Gabe Rodriguez
telepathy permission: Go for it! Gabe's a very analytical character, he thinks deeply before he acts even though he puts on a flippant act.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: lol nope
further plotting: I love dream walking, let's do that one day.
no subject
characters played: wesley price (
telepathy permission: y; for Wesley there could be a sort of disconnect sometimes between thinking and acting - like his thoughts sometimes need to craft themselves in a this is what people say kind of vibe as he's still learning about being human/the intricacies of interaction and voicing self thought
finch's thoughts are more paranoid though he usually filters that out before speaking - suspicion remains.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: N
further plotting: If it ever arose, sure!!
no subject
characters played: khoriya wolfman ue theros
telepathy permission: yes, feel free! khoriya's mind is clearly neither wholly human or beast but is definitely sentient, and his surface thoughts reveal uncertainty and inner conflict that are at odds with the appearance of dominating, ruthless stoicism he tries to project. he tends to lie to save face and will actively act against his own desires in an effort to stifle his sense of emotional weakness.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: the spirit that possesses him/takes over in transformation also protects his deeper thoughts and memories. mavis can likely sense that there is something 'shadowy' that muffles intentional mental probing, and can catch a flash of a deep, malicious hunger lurking at the edges of his mind.
further plotting: yess i'm down for it esp as plot stuff demands.
no subject
characters played: farrah
telepathy permission: yes! mavis may notice that farrah's thoughts often contradict her behavior-- she acts in the best interest of others, ignoring her own wants/needs often to do so. she may also seem far more aggressive and outspoken than she ever appears (like there's a version of herself she's burying), and mavis may hear lots of prayer as this is typically what she does to ground herself and allow herself to let things go to be the best people pleaser she can be. oddly enough, these prayers sound like they would be encouraging her to do the opposite of what she uses them for.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: farrah is very close to a world-breaking level telepath (like, xavier level?) in her own world, and so she is familiar with Unwelcome Intrusions in her mind. she has gotten better at blocking anything she doesn't want perceived if she ever notices someone's telepathic fingers poking around in there.
further plotting: sure! i think felipe's unhealthy obsession with mavis, alongside the two of them first interacting during the hunt will make for some interesting opportunities down the line.
no subject
characters played: ransom (
telepathy permission: yes for both. i don't believe anything weird would be gleaned just from surface-level thoughts.
barriers/personal psychic abilities: no barriers. nick does have the nascent form of the maggidim i've outlined in my own opt-in/out post, but i don't think it would prevent surface-level mind-reading. he might be able to push her out at deeper levels, but we can always discuss that if it becomes relevant.
further plotting: always up for further plotting if it's organic!
